More problems have emerged with the disbursement of social grants. The SA Social Security Agency says that more than 150 000 people have not received their payments for this month due to an issue with the verification process.

The number was initially set at 70 000, but Sassa spokesperson, Paseka Letsatsi confirmed that the figure is far higher. He says that the agency undertakes a verification process every month to prevent fraud.

It ensures that banking details, names, addresses and ID numbers are all correct to protect beneficiaries from scammers and fraudsters who may be trying to make off with their money.

Letsatsi says that beneficiaries could have been impacted by recent flooding in parts of the country and their subsequent relocation.
