Parliament requested to implement stricter tender laws

Parliament has been requested to consider introducing stricter tender laws to prevent
politically connected people from receiving state tenders.

Briefing Parliament on the progress of Covid-19 related investigations, finance watchdog Scopa says the fact that such people are getting contracts doesn’t mean they are legal. Among the top contracts being probed is the R139 million personal protective equipment (PPE) contract linked to Presidency spokesperson Khusela Diko and her husband.

Thirty-nine bank accounts linked to this tender have been frozen. The Special Investigating Unit (SIU) is investigating tenders involving 930 service providers.
