Social Development under fire for mismanaging of R300m

President Cyril Ramaphosa must intervene on the poor administrative trends at the Social Development Department.

Political analyst, Angelo Fick was speaking as the Auditor General’s office has found trends of poor record keeping at a department that is responsible for the country’s social welfare and development.

It also found that Sassa had paid an independent contractor more than R 300 million to administer payments, but it did not deliver services.

This incident dates back to 2014. The Social Services Agency also incurred irregular expenditure of nearly R 55 million over the last financial year.

For its part, the Department of Social Development, also incurred high volumes of irregular expenditure.
