Zuma Can’t Dodge Imprisonment

Some analysts have expressed shock at the Constitutional Court’s minority ruling that former President Jacob Zuma should not be imprisoned for being in contempt of court.

Justices Chris Jafta and Leona Theron differed with the majority view handed down by Justice Sisi Khampepe which found that Zuma had violated a direct order to appear and answer questions at the State Capture Commission. Zuma had managed to avoid providing testimony at the Inquiry, citing various reasons. But the apex court found that Zuma must be sanctioned for deliberately flouting the Constitutional Court ruling for him to appear.
