The politics of deception is at play in the US’ tactic to pressure South Africa to toe the West’s line on the Russia-Ukraine war.

This is the contention of Former Deputy Minister of International Relations and Cooperation, Marius Fransman.

He was speaking as all eyes are on the 15th BRICS summit being hosted in South Africa.

Of particular focus, is Pretoria’s relationship with Moscow and Beijing.

Fransman notes that the unfounded claims made by US ambassador to South Africa, Reuben Brigety, was aimed at creating a diversion and political narrative on a matter that did not involve Pretoria.

This as South Africa has taken a non-aligned stance on the Russia-Ukraine conflict.

The BRICS Foreign Ministers meeting will also assess the dynamics of the West/NATO agenda, and how it may try to influence members of the bloc.
