The Kusile Power station is on track to bringing four generating units back onto the grid by December, with Unit 5 being back online by November.

Electricity Minister, Kgosientsho Ramokgopa was speaking as there is concern that Stage 8 load shedding may be implemented by August, which is the peak of winter.

He says that Kusile is not the only power station making progress in terms of its generation capacity.

He says that engineers are working around the clock to ensure that there are no unplanned outages.

Minister Ramokgopa is also engaging with municipalities on how they can assist in reducing the strain on the national electricity grid.

He has also sought to allay fears of a blackout, saying that load shedding is helping to reduce the risk of a total grid collapse.
