Six Ways To Unmask Basic Education

The Covid-19 pandemic put the Department of Basic Education to the ultimate test, not just in terms of governance, but also the cracks that need filling. According to Deputy Dean for Research and Postgraduate Studies at UWC’s Education Faculty, Professor Rouaan Maarman, the public and academics have a responsibility to remain critical towards the Department of Basic Education, and for the lack of strategic vision for the schooling system because Covid-19 can’t be blamed for all challenges and the drop in pass rates for Grade 12. Instead, Maarman suggests six moves to unmask Basic Education in the country.
