The Covid-19 pandemic has hampered the ability of informal traders to reach their usual financial targets before the Covid-19 pandemic. And for many households, informal trading is the primary source of income to provide for their families. The business was hampered because fewer people were out on the streets to do the shopping for fear of contracting Covid-19 and because of then lockdown regulations. However, The South African Informal Traders Alliance has come up with ways for the sector to become more competitive as well as provide informal traders with the opportunity to be labelled ‘Informal Trader of the Year’.
