The cost of living in South Africa had increased to 6.5% last month.

The Consumer Price Index (CPI) measures monthly changes in cost of several items linked to the quality of life.

The soaring fuel and cooking oil prices have pushed up the annual CPI to a five-year high.

This as transport, food, and non-alcoholic beverages accounted for just over half of the annual inflation rate.

Stats SA says that these categories have shown sharp increases.

Meanwhile, the monthly change in the CPI has stood at 0.7%.
