Regulation is needed to ensure pilgrims are protected – Samtoa

Should a Muslim body or council be the one that oversees Hajj and Umrah decisions for South Africans? This, as Hajj agencies have been called to stop taking advantage of pilgrims. It comes as South African Hujaaj have been drastically impacted by dubious travel operators who have either absconded with their hard-earned money or the travel bans imposed during the Covid-19 pandemic. The latter concern has seen several hujaaj(pilgrims) waiting for their money to be reimbursed, with the South African Hajj and Umrah Council (SAHUC) coming up short in holding defaulting operators to account.
