President Cyril Ramaphosa has acceded to DA leader Geordin Hill-Lewis’s proposed changes to his party’s representation in the national executive.
Former DA leader John Steenhuisen has effectively been demoted from Agriculture Minister to Deputy Minister of Trade, Industry and Competition.
Willem Aucamp replaces Steenhuisen as Minister of Agriculture while David Maynier vacates the position of Western Cape Education MEC to become Minister of Forestry, Fisheries and the Environment. Maynier takes over from Aucamp.
Deputy Minister changes:
Alexandra Abrahams – Deputy Minister of Electricity and Energy,
Jack Bloom – Deputy Minister of Water and Sanitation,
Yusuf Cassim as Deputy Minister of Higher Education.
The Presidency says the changes were done following consultation with the leadership of the Democratic Alliance as a member of the coalition government.
Meanwhile, Dina Pule has been appointed Minister of Social Development after President Ramaphosa dismissed Sisisi Tolashe.
President Ramaphosa has wished all the incoming Ministers and Deputy Ministers well in their roles.
