The Supreme Court of Appeal dismissed, with punitive costs, an appeal to challenge a North Gauteng High Court ruling that imposed costs against him. Zuma, who was implicated in the improper conduct referred to in the State Capture Report, published by then Public Protector Thuli Madonsela in 2016.

He was required to appoint a judge selected by the Chief Justice to head a commission of inquiry into the allegations of state capture using Madonsela’s 2016 report as a starting point. It ordered Zuma to personally pay the costs of his failed application to review and set aside Madonsela’s decision.

The Zuma Foundation says they didn’t expect any positive outcome on the matter, but at least hoped the courts would steer clear from politics.
