The purpose of leadership is to elevate a community. This is assertion of Professor of Philosophy of Education at Stellenbosch University, Nuraan Davids. She was speaking as the Cape Muslim community is discussing the conduct of leadership, and the impact that it has on behaviour, and interpersonal relationships. The community reacted with outrage following the degrading social media post by Parkwood’s Moulana Dawood Sampson, in which he used derogatory and sexist language towards women. There were some responses in Sampson’s defense, saying that he had used the language and portrayed the thinking of the Cape community. But Professor Davids has noted that Muslim leadership must work to reflect the example of the Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him) and how he spoke about women, and men’s role towards them
