The new coronavirus variant, also known as SARS-CoV-2 or 501.v2 has been identified in nearly 200 samples from various clinics in the Western Cape, Eastern Cape and KwaZulu-Natal. The mutated strain is known for spreading much faster and is more contagious than the initial strand. It also seems to be affecting more young people.
