President Cyril Ramaphosa convenes his Coordinating Council tomorrow, to discuss lifting the mandatory mask-wearing and public gathering restrictions.

The proposed changes to the Covid-19 regulations come as both natural and vaccine immunity have played a large role in the reduced spread of the virus.

Western Cape Premier Alan Winde says that it’s up to individuals to take responsibility and use their knowledge about reducing the risk of infection.

He says that the current regulations are impacting on the country’s economic growth.

Meanwhile, flu season has caused some confusion this year, as Covid-19 has similar symptoms.

Chief Operating Officer at the Western Cape Health Department, Dr Saadiq Kariem says the province has seen an increase in flu cases.

He has advised those who have fallen ill, to wear their masks as a general rule to protect others from getting sick.
