A 31-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly murdering his mother with an axe during an argument.

The fatal dispute took place in Browns Farm near Philippi yesterday. It’s understood that the son had been drinking and came home intoxicated. This is when he assaulted his 47-year-old mother.

A neighbour alerted police to the incident after finding the woman’s body inside the house. A 10-year-old relative witnessed the ordeal and has since been taken in for counselling.

The suspect is set to appear in court soon.
