The local government election date has been set for 27 October until the Constitutional Court allows for a postponement. However, this doesn’t mean that voting will go ahead.

Minister for Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (COGTA) Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma made the announcement during a media briefing on an update on the local government elections.

COGTA is set to gazette the date of the election this week. Dlamini-Zuma says should the elections have been postponed, it cannot be held later than February 2022.
