The Judicial Service Commission (JSC) has voted for the impeachment of Western Cape Judge President John Hlophe.

It comes four months after the commission found Hlophe guilty of gross misconduct for trying to influence two Constitutional Court justices to rule in favour of former President Jacob Zuma.

The JSC is required to provide reasons for their decisions within 24-hours. The apex court and Hlope have until September 3rd to challenge the JSC’s impeachment.

Thereafter, Parliament will vote to remove the Judge President.
