Claims to privatize SABC dismissed

Communications Minister Stella Ndabeni-Abrahams has dismissed claims that there are plans in the pipeline to privatise the SABC. This, after the public broadcaster, extended the suspension of the Section 189 process for another month to make way for consultations with unions and government.

Earlier this week, Ndabeni-Abrahams met with Labour Minister Thulas Nxesi and the SABC Board to discuss alternatives to retrenchments. SABC workers have been holding lunchtime pickets outside the broadcasters’ officers after some workers received retrenchment and redundancy letters.
