The City of Johannesburg has been in contact with the embassies of Tanzania, Malawi and Zimbabwe, to repatriate the bodies of the Marshalltown fire.

A total of 76 people have died following the fire, with over 50 sustaining injuries.

While most of the victims can only be identified through DNA testing, authorities are battling to track down their next of kin, or determine their nationalities.

The victims had been living in the derelict building with no record of how many people were occupying the disused structure.

It’s believed that at least five Tanzanian nationals died in the inferno.
