Imam Haroon Foundation Wary of Special Probe of Apartheid Atrocities

The Imam Haroon Foundation expressed its skepticism over the specialist unit being established to probe apartheid-era atrocities in the 1960s.

National Coordinator for the Imam Haroon Foundation Cassiem Khan says while the renewed energy to bring the perpetrators of apartheid-era crimes to book is a step in the right direction, serious action such as proper investigations and prosecutions is more important.

The National Prosecuting Authority and the Hawks made the announcement of the unit. The Hawks is expected to appoint 34 skilled and competent police officials to the unit while the NPA will appoint former experienced prosecutors.
