More than 500 police trainees have completed the Basic Police Learning Development Programme.

According to the office of the national police commissioner these newly trained constables are equipped with the necessary skills to fight crime. It adds that this addition is seen as a force multiplier and will enhance police visibility.

The newly trained officers are the first batch of the 10 000 people taken in to capacitate the police service amid rising crime.

However, it will need to be seen where and how these officers are deployed.

In the Cape Town there has been an ongoing concern about the disparity in resources between police stations in poor and wealthy areas.
