A case of culpable homicide is being investigated after four women died while en route from George to Cape Town when the bus they were travelling in overturned.

A passenger bus carrying 53 churchgoers from the St Aidan’s Church in Lansdowne overturned on the N2 highway near Swellendam on Friday. Investigations into the cause of the accident are still in its early stages.

The bus company contracted for the tour, HG Travelling,  says the driver of the bus is still reeling from the trauma of the accident.

HG Travelling’s Enrico Lucas says the driver was experienced, mature and was in constant communication with the churchgoers. He adds that this was the first time the church made use of the bus’s travelling services.

Lucas stressed that the vehicle was 100% roadworthy and all its drivers all have professional driving permits.
