Duncan Pieterse has been appointed as the new director-general of the National Treasury.

The position had been vacant since June last year, when Dondo Mogajane left the position.

Minister in the Presidency Khumbudzo Ntshavheni has since confirmed Cabinet’s approval of Pieterse’s appointment.

He had served as the head of assets and liabilities at Treasury. His qualifications include a PhD in economics and was also a visiting research fellow at several top universities in the United States. From 2004 to 2008, he worked as a development economist and public finance consultant.
