The alleged Parliament arsonist, Zandile Mafe is unfit to stand trial.

The Western Cape High Court was informed of this finding this morning. It’s the outcome of an independent psychiatric assessment conducted at Mafe’s request. This after three State-appointed specialists had given separate findings.

Mafe is accused of setting fire to the National Assembly building in January last year.

The case has now been postponed to September 1st for the State and the Defence to tell the judge how they intend to proceed on the matter.

High Court Judge Nathan Erasmus has ordered that Mafe should be detained in the hospital wing of Pollsmoor Prison until his next court appearance.
