The much-maligned Central Line is reportedly on course to providing full train services. The Passenger Rail Agency (Prasa) in the Western Cape says that the timeline of a full central line operation has been a pressing concern for most rail commuters in the metro.

The line has been closed for several years first due to crippling vandalism, and then due to people building shacks on the key rail route. PRASA regional manager Raymond Maseko says that in July 2020, they only had 19 train sets and 13 train stations that were operational.

That figure has now grown to 121 operational train stations in the Western Cape. A total of 11 stations are not working from Philippi to Kapteinsklip and from Stock Road to Chris Hani. These are on the Central Line.
