The suspect arrested in connection with the Manenberg cat killings has been released from custody.

Police spokesperson Joseph Swartbooi says there was insufficient evidence linking the 40-year-old to the spate of cat killings. On Friday, police nabbed the suspect in the Manenberg area.

CCTV footage led authorities to a property in the area where two dogs believed to be used to hunt cats were seized. Investigations into the cat killings are ongoing.

So far, 42 cats were mutilated and dumped on residents’ properties.
