Localised flooding and power outages after heavy downpours

Several areas and informal settlements have been negatively affected by this weekend’s heavy downpours.
Spokesperson for the City of Cape Town’s Disaster Risk Management Centre, Sonica Lategan says teams received reports that structures in the Mkhonto Square Informal Settlement in Nyanga, as well as Brown’s Farm are experiencing localized flooding. In Parkwood, several roads have also been affected.
Meanwhile, several areas across the Western Cape are experiencing power outages due to heavy rainfall and strong winds. Eskom customers are mainly affected by the power outages. The adverse weather conditions have resulted in network faults and infrastructure damage in certain locations. Technical teams are currently onsite working to assess the damage and restore supply as soon as it is safe to do so.
The following areas are impacted:
* Eerste River
* Parts of Khayelitsha
* Klapmuts
* Lynedoch
* Malmesbury, Gouda, Saron and surrounding areas
* Vissershok
Eskom urges all residents to treat all electrical infrastructure as live.
