The City of Cape Town’s Water and Sanitation Directorate has announced a series of planned maintenance works across multiple areas between 20 and 25 April 2026, which will result in temporary water supply disruptions.
The maintenance forms part of the City’s ongoing infrastructure upgrade and repair programme aimed at improving long-term reliability and reducing water losses. Residents in affected areas have been urged to store water in clean, sealed containers ahead of scheduled shutdowns.
Tuesday, 21 April (Daytime Shut-offs)
Several areas will experience water interruptions on Tuesday due to valve replacements, pressure management work and pipeline construction:
- Somerset West (parts): 08:00 to 18:00 (valve replacement at Louis Botha Reservoir)
- Gordon’s Bay (parts): 09:00 to 18:00 (pressure-reducing valve replacement affecting Miller, Faure, Gordonia and parts of Beach Road)
- Fish Hoek (parts): 09:00 to 19:30 (main water supply construction, continuing the next day)
- Oranjezicht (selected streets): 08:00 to 20:00 (pipeline replacement work affecting Breda, Prince, Jagersfontein and surrounding roads)
Multi-day Disruptions (21–23 April)
Some areas will experience repeated daily shut-offs over multiple days:
- Retreat (parts): 09:00 to 19:30 from Tuesday to Thursday (main pipeline construction affecting several residential roads)
- Fish Hoek (parts): Continued disruption on Wednesday, 22 April (09:00 to 19:45)
Wednesday, 22 April (Daytime Shut-offs)
Additional areas will face water supply interruptions on Wednesday:
- Lotus River (parts): 08:00 to 16:00 (main supply construction within defined boundaries)
- Kommetjie (parts): 09:00 to 19:30 (pipeline work affecting Lighthouse Road and surrounding streets)
Thursday, 23 April (Daytime Shut-offs)
- Oranjezicht (additional areas): 08:00 to 20:00 (second pipeline project affecting Upper Orange Street and surrounding roads)
- Paarden Eiland (parts): 09:00 to 17:00 (new connection installation along Neptune Road and nearby streets)
Saturday, 25 April (Major Shut-off)
- Rondebosch (parts): 08:00 to 18:00 (valve maintenance and hydrant replacement, preceded by a test shut-off on 22 April from 09:00 to 14:00)
Zero-Pressure Testing Across Northern and Central Areas
In addition to maintenance work, zero-pressure testing (ZPT) will be conducted to assess the network and prepare for pressure management upgrades. These tests may result in low pressure or no water:
- Tuesday, 21 April (09:00–17:00): Kraaifontein, Peerless Park East and West, Scottsville, Eikendal
- Tuesday, 21 April (10:00–16:00): Brackenfell North, Welgelee, De Tuin, Marlborough Park
- Tuesday, 21 April (09:00–16:00): Ravensmead West, Parow, Elsies River
- Wednesday, 22 April (09:00–16:00): Malibu Village
- Wednesday, 22 April (09:00–16:00): Manenberg South, Surrey Estate, Gugulethu
The City noted that it cannot predict exactly which streets will be affected during testing, with some residents experiencing reduced pressure and others full outages.
Additional Work and Surveys
Leak detection operations will be conducted from 20 to 24 April in Dunoon, Mountainside, Gordon’s Bay and Site C in Khayelitsha. These inspections will not disrupt water supply.
Meanwhile, site surveys ahead of smart water meter installations will take place from 23 April to 4 May in areas including Saxenburg Park, Kuilsrivier Industria, and Bellville South.
Advisory to Residents
The City has urged residents to prepare adequately by storing water in advance and keeping taps closed during outages to prevent damage when supply is restored. Temporary discolouration or milky water may occur after restoration due to trapped air in the system.
Officials say the maintenance programme is essential to ensuring long-term water security and reducing infrastructure failures across the metro.
The City has apologised for any inconvenience caused and encouraged residents to follow official channels for updates.
