It is clear that President Cyril Ramaphosa and his advisors don’t know the different between a megawatt and mega hour. If they did, they wouldn’t have taken policy decisions that will imperil the country’s economic growth prospects and lead it to unprecedented hardships and energy poverty. Energy analyst Tshepo Kgadima was speaking amid the backdrop of the President Cyril Ramaphosa’s economic recovery plan and how it will fix South Africa’s energy crisis. The president yesterday announced that a priority intervention is to rapidly needed to expand energy generation capacity through accelerating the implementation of the Integrated Resource Plan. Kgadima adds that Integrated Resource Plan lacked detail and doesn’t reveal how it will meaningfully contribute towards economic recovery.
