A 22-year-old woman has been arrested for allegedly pouring hot water on a child in Langa.

It’s alleged the woman did this to deter the five-year-old girl from playing at the gate of her house in Settlers.

The suspect was detained this week despite the incident having taken place on June 24th.

A case of assault with the intent to do grievous bodily harm was opened against the perpetrator. Police say the Bishop Lavis Family Violence, Child Protection a Sexual Offences Unit (FCS) is investigating the incident.

The EFF in the Cape Metro has expressed disgust at what it calls a despicable act. It says the suspect burnt the child and has left her victim with psychological trauma.

The red berets have called for the harshest punishment to imposed on the suspect.
