The Western Cape government is heading to the high court to appeal an earlier order suspending construction of Amazon’s African headquarters along the Liesbeek River.

Local government, environmental affairs, and development MEC Anton Bredell says that there are several errors in the judgement, and misunderstandings about the public participation that had preceded the construction.

The development has faced much opposition from environmental groups and indigenous organisations.

They say that the construction will compromise the biodiversity and heritage of the area.

Developer Liesbeek Leisure Properties Trust has already lodged court papers for leave to appeal last month’s ruling that the River Club development in Observatory must be halted.
