Ward councillor nabbed for alleged rape

A 56-year-old man will spend the weekend in jail after being arrested on a charge of rape in Hanover Park.
Western Cape police spokesperson, Wesley Twigg has confirmed that the man was arrested earlier today.
The suspect is due to appear in the Wynberg Magistrates’ Court on Monday.
Meanwhile, it’s alleged that the suspect is a DA Ward Councillor.
The party’s Western Cape chairperson, Jaco Londt says that they have been made aware of the alleged incident.
He says that the facts of the case must be ascertained.
Londt affirmed that the party will not hesitate to take the necessary action, and will not condone such a heinous crime.
The matter has been referred to the Democratic Alliance’s Federal Legal Committee, which deals with disciplinary matters.
Londt says that the matter must be dealt with quickly and decisively, while the law should be allowed to take its course.
