Western Cape Transport MEC Bonginkosi Madikizela is expected to assess safety compliance at various taxi ranks in Cape Town today. This comes as active Covid-19 figures in the province have spiked to over 12 000. Madikizela will visit the station deck in the CBD, Bellville and Site C in Khayelitsha. The visits form part of an increased awareness campaign by the provincial government to curb the spread of the virus. The MEC had assessed conditions at the long-distance bus and taxi rank, Joe Gqabi in Philippi, yesterday. This inspection comes ahead of people returning to the Eastern Cape in the coming weeks.
