Taxi industry worker gets 20 years for torching train

A man convicted for setting fire to a train in Eerste River in 2020, has been handed a hefty prison sentence.

Ricardo Khan will serve 20 years in jail for setting fire to a train worth R 3.5million. Prasa has projected that the impact of this act of arson amounts to R 9 million lost. Khan worked at the Eerster River taxi rank.

The National Prosecuting Authority’s Eric Ntabazalila says that the trial revealed that the taxi industry benefits whenever trains are put out of service, and the accused testified that he gets paid more if more taxis are in operation.
