Major General Khehla Sitole has been dismissed as National Police Commissioner.

President Cyril Ramaphosa says that this comes into effect as of March 31, 2022.

He says that both parties have agreed to the termination of the Commissioner’s contract which would be “in the best interests of the country.”

The remaining period will be used to allow Sitole to conduct handovers and to find a suitable replacement.

It also comes a week after Sitole and Police Minister Bheki Cele confirmed that while there were tensions between them, their professional relationship remained intact.

But Sitole had also expressed “shock and dismay” at allegations levelled against him by Minister Cele, which intimated that he had worked with EFF leader Julius Malema to oust the Minister.
