The South African Human Rights Commission will also be investigating the alleged racist incident at Stellenbosch University this weekend.

This as there has been national outrage after a white student urinated on the belongings of a black student on Sunday morning. The university has suspended the attacker, with an extensive investigation also set to be launched.

Stellenbosch University student, Thandile Nqxikwe says the perpetrator issued an apology but says there was no remorse for his actions, and called for him to be expelled immediately.

Vice chancellor of the university Professor Wim de Villiers says what happened at Huis Marais is unacceptable. He adds that no student has the right to diminish another student’s human dignity or rights in this way.

The university has not ruled out the possibility of expulsion or criminal charges being laid.
