Parents Must Check Scholar Transport

Parents and schools have been called to ensure that any vehicles which they contract to transport their children are safe, and the drivers are competent and licensed.

It follows an incident on Friday where an overloaded minibus taxi transporting school learners crashed into a bollard outside Parliament in Cape Town. The learners, aged between six and 14 sustained serious to minor injuries. Some are still being treated in hospital.

Transport MEC Daylin Mitchell has expressed his horror at the irresponsible actions of the driver and the owner of the minibus taxi. He says it’s shocking to have learnt that the driver did not have a driver’s or operating licence and that the minibus was also unlicensed.
