No time limit to seek justice for victims of sexual offences

There is no time limit to prosecute acts of sexual offences. This is the assertion by the Director of the Women’s Legal Centre Sehaam Semaai. She was speaking amid the backdrop of more speaking out against the alleged sexual abuse by two well-known Bokaap individuals.

This follows a YouTube video of a family member of the individuals detailing her abuse when she was still a toddler. Semaai says a victim cannot be rushed to speak out against their abuser or rapist because the psychological trauma is different to other crimes. Semaai encouraged women to speak out and seek legal assistance should they decide to want to bring their perpetrator to book.
