More EFF lawmakers are facing the whip of Parliament’s powers and privileges committee.

At least nine MPs have been found guilty of calling President Cyril Ramaphosa a money launderer in relation to the Phala Phala scandal. They refused to withdraw the remarks during the Presidency budget in June 2022.

During the committee’s hearing of the matter the EFF’s counsel argued that no sanctions were imposed on some other party members who called MP Floyd Shivambu a VBS looter and a murderer. It will need to be seen whether these lawmakers escape sanctions.

The committee is expected to refer the matter to the National Assembly. This is the third group of EFF MPs to be found guilty by the committee in just a few months.
