More than 200 RDP houses hijacked in Cape Town

More than 200 RDP houses within the City of Cape Town and Matzikama municipalities have been hijacked.

Mayoral Committee Member for Human Settlements Malusi Booi says more than 1100 rental units has been hijacked by families in the metro, with the worst affected areas being Mfuleni and Langa.

According to the City’s Public Housing Tenancy Management Branch report, in addition to the high number of hijacked houses, the City is also confronted with 35 known gangsters who have occupied its rental stock illegally.

These gangsters reside in Manenberg, Athlone, Elsies River, Uitsig, Atlantis, Mitchells Plain, Silvertown and Heideveld.
