Director-General for the National Health Department Sandile Buthelezi says Minister Zweli Mkhize and his wife are doing well at home. On Sunday, the minister announced that he tested positive for Covid-19 after experiencing mild symptoms.

Buthelezi says they are both self-isolating at home and arrangements have been made to test the people who Minister Mkhize has been in contact with. Buthelezi gave reassurance that the country is still well-prepared should a second wave hit.

Meanwhile, 11 more Covid-19 deaths have been recorded in the last 24-48 hours, seven of which are from the Western Cape. South Africa’s total confirmed cases now stands at 705 254. This is a 1461 jump since the previous day.
