Eskom has suspended load shedding until five this afternoon to allow parliament to deal with a series of Appropriation Bills that are essential to keeping government operating.
According to the power utility Parliament’s Deputy Speaker Lechesa Tsenoli had made the request as the sitting will be held virtually.
Eskom indicates that large industrial power consumers have agreed to reduce their usage during these five hours. Eskom will also be using some of its emergency reserves. The state-owned entity has been hit by another bout of generation unit breakdowns forcing it to enforce power cuts.
Stage 2 load shedding which will resume at 5pm will continue until 10pm on Sunday. Eskom says this is to replenish their reserves and prepare for the week ahead.
