Eskom does not have the money to fund the energy investment plans of Electricity Minister Kgosientsho Ramokgopa. Energy analyst, Professor David Walwyn notes that this means that any grid or generation expansion must be supported by private investors.

The minister is eyeing an extension of generating capacity in the country’s three coastal provinces. But Walwyn contends that this will mean that private investors will be given concessions over a part of the grid. Its however still unclear if these concessions will come at an extra cost to consumers.
