Religious gatherings may have played a key role in the rate of Covid-19 infections amongst Muslims. Research by the National Institute for Communicable Diseases has found that during the last third of the month of Ramadan to Eid-ul-Fitr, South Africa’s Muslim population saw an uptick in positive Covid-19 cases, hospitalizations and even deaths.
