The spate of gun violence in Hanover Park this weekend is due to gang members being released from prison.
The local Residents Association’s chairperson Denver Andrews says that the community was not made aware that these criminals would be released or consulted on how this may affect their safety.
He says that the community’s relationship with the police has also been affected in the fight against gang violence.
Andrews alleges that some police officers inform the gangs about residents that have reported crimes.
He says that the residents then become targets.
Andrews says that the latest bout of shootings is also related to gangsters carrying out orders from prison.
