Fire at Eskom’s Kendal Power Station

SHARE

A fire at Eskom’s Kendal Power Station has resulted in all its units being shut down.

The power utility says that the generator transformer at Unit 1 had caught fire.

The blaze damaged the cables to the main cooling water system.

This also affected Units 2 and 3, which were shut down under controlled conditions.

They are expected to be brought back on line this week.

No injuries have been reported and further investigations into what caused the fire are underway.

This comes as there has been great concern around Eskom’s infrastructural integrity.

It’s unclear if Eskom will enforce load shedding following this morning’s fire at Kendal Power Station.
