Government is eroding the little confidence citizens have left regarding Eskom’s leadership. This is the assertion by labour federation Cosatu.

This, as the power utility implemented Stage 6 load shedding yesterday, noting that it will likely continue throughout the week until the loss of generation units are recovered.

Cosatu has criticised government’s poor handling of load shedding, and called on President Cyril Ramaphosa to find a permanent solution to end the crisis.

The trade union adds that the commitment made to combat load shedding by the President Ramaphosa is disappointing.

Meanwhile, President Cyril Ramaphosa will be cutting his UK visit short and returning to South Africa to deal with the country’s energy crisis.

Ramaphosa was meant to return to the United States after his UK visit to address the UN Annual General Assembly. Instead, he will be represented by International Relations Minister Naledi Pandor.

Ramaphosa’s visits to the two nations formed part of bilateral talks.
