Electricity Instability At SAPS Satellite Station Behind Increase In Philippi Precinct Murders

Electricity issues at a satellite police station in Browns Farm, Philippi is behind the increase in murder rates in the area.

This is according to the Chairperson of the Western Cape Legislature’s Standing Committee on Community Safety, Reagan Allen. The station only operates until 5pm every day after which the power shuts off.

The station has been battling with electricity instability for the last two years. In a parliamentary reply, Allen revealed that from March 1st, 2020 to the end of March 2021, 212 murders occurred in the precinct.
