The uptick in gang violence in Haiti’s capital Port-au-Prince has seen more than 3000 people forced to flee their homes.

Citizens that were forced to flee and seek shelter in impoverished sites are now left vulnerable to other attacks.

The International Organisation for Migration (IOM) estimates that nearly 200 000 people have been left displaced across the Caribbean nation where fierce fighting between armed gangs has spilled over into the past several months.

The IOM raised concern over the high levels of insecurity that is creating a climate of mistrust between certain host communities and displaced populations resulting in the deterioration of social cohesion.

The uptick in violence has also seen healthcare facilities and schools shut its doors.
